Prior to the development of this program, no electronic tools or processes existed to support mentoring relationships. Previously, mentoring relationships were conducted in either a very highly structured manner or a very loosely structured manner. The highly structured method typically involved Human Resource representatives who acted as matchmakers for mentees and mentors and kept detailed records of the relationship development and activities. The more informal mentoring design typically disposed of all structure and failed to address the true needs that brought the participants together in the first place.
