What difference does this tool make?
Initially, the goal of this tool was educate the training
community about the IRS e-Learning Strategy and to teach
instructional design standards. By bringing people
together to share ideas, processes, and standards however,
the site has evolved into much more. Today the ELDRC has
become a hub for the exchange of development process
information in the IRS. Project Leads, Designers, and
Developers access and use the ELRDC to produce consistent
and compliant course ware.
Offering templates, Accessibility, Security, and
Technical standards has helped shape e-learning products
that are currently being created. Community members now
have a place to acquire information, share opinions or
even seek additional training. These features have moved
the success of the ELDRC beyond that of an extraordinary
performance centered design tool; it has become the
foundation of a community of practice. Available
discussion forums, e-Learning Surveys, and continuous
modifications keep the ELDRC current and responsive to
community needs.
The end results of project teams using the ELDRC are more
educated decisions regarding course ware design,
streamlined development processes, and the production of
higher quality course ware. Building from knowledge and
past projects, reviewing industry best practices, and
learning from the advice of others has significantly
improved instructional design within the IRS. Progress
will continue and will be further enhanced with the LCMS
integration in the near future. This will support content
reuse and leverage development across projects.
