IRS e-learning development teams use a variety of tools and other resources available on the ELDRC in the design and development of their e-learning products.

For example, in developing their WBT courses, team members could review accessibility standards, access the WBT SCO templates along with various guides and other information. The courseware produced by using these tools have a consistent appearance, adhere to compliance standards, and is based on an approved interface design.

A sample from the IRS Mandatory Briefings is provided below. The site consisting of five separate briefings was developed in Dream Weaver using the development tools provided in the ELDRC. The WBT SCO Templates provided the design concept, color scheme, and interface layout. The Style Guide provided specific standards for:

  • Text
  • Visual Elements
  • Graphics
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Media Elements
  • Naming Conventions

Using these templates and guidelines, the development team produced a fully interactive just in time training solution for disseminating the Mandatory Briefing information. The tools, templates, guides, and resources streamlined the development process and supported the project team during each step of the effort.

The online Mandatory Briefings are currently available to all IRS employees with access to a desktop workstation on the Intranet. Approximately 60% of IRS employees are currently completing the Mandatory Briefings online. Past methods of delivering this same information were limited to paper-based materials or a briefing by a manager.
